Tipico sparviere dal dorso grigio o bruno e parti inferiori chiare. Il soggetto ripreso nella foto è un maschio, che è molto più piccolo delle femmina ed ha il petto pallido. I suoi tipici habitat sono le foreste aperte, la macchia, le piantagioni. Di solito viene osservato appollaiato su posatoi esposti e raramente in volo. Si nutre principalmente di lucertole, ma anche di insetti, ragni, rane, topi e piccoli uccelli. Endemico del Madagascar e delle Comore, è abbastanza diffuso e attualmente non minacciato.
