Se le aste crescono prive di ramificazioni diventano un' arma letale negli scontri per il territorio e anche per le persone . In Sardegna vengono chiamati "Su Sullonaju". Questi animali sono detti Cervi killer (o Cervi assassini), perchè durante le lotte ingaggiate con i consimili per il possesso dell'harem, possono infliggere con le aste prive di ramificazioni, ferite letali ai loro rivali. Il temine sardo deriva da "sula", la "lesina", cioè lo strumento utilizzato per forare e cucire anche le pelli più robuste.
