Piazza Carlo Alberto è una delle principali piazze, interamente pedonalizzata, del centro storico di Torino, adiacente all'importante asse viario di Via Roma e presso Piazza San Carlo e Piazza Carignano. Il luogo prende il nome dal Re di Sardegna Carlo Alberto di Savoia, figlio di Carlo Emanuele di Savoia-Carignano, la cui famiglia era proprietaria dell'omonimo palazzo la cui facciata ottocentesca ancora si può ammirare su di un lato della piazza Carlo Alberto. Sorge ove un tempo si estendevano i giardini interni dell'imponente edificio barocco progettato da Guarino Guarini che, mediante mura di cinta, si raccordavano all'antistante edificio delle scuderie che oggi ospita la prestigiosa sede della Biblioteca Nazionale. L'area fu riorganizzata abbattendo le mura di cinta dando luogo alla piazza tra il 1842 e il 1859. Sul lato sud della piazza sorge il settecentesco Palazzo Campana, attuale sede universitaria del Dipartimento di Matematica. Durante tutta l'epoca del fascismo, fu la sede della Federazione Provinciale del Partito Nazionale Fascista; al piccolo balcone presente sul lato della piazza soleva affacciarsi il Duce nelle visite ufficiali. Il 26 luglio 1943 fu teatro di violenti scontri.
