, 1/200 f/4.0, ISO 2500, hand held. South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Specie: Crocuta crocuta

#wild #safari That evening we were at the center of an impressive documentary scene that marked us a lot emotionally. The Law of Nature is often wild, cruel, merciless... but in the end everything returns to the awareness of the right. We were with our guide Cephas, after dark we were returning to 'our' Leopard with prey on the Sausage tree, we were alone. During the approach Cephas immediately notices the situation, the light was scarce, but we manage to glimpse among the dust 3 Hyenas who take a Leopard cub and its mother while descending from the tree to defend it. A few moments. The little one dies in front of us. The mother quickly returns to the tree to survive. We hear the hyenas' cries of 'joy' within us, like the last cry of the little Leopard. The scenes that follow will be gory. Difficult to film and photograph. The 3 Hyenas (a great mother with two young children) share the trophy. The Leopard Mother (in her first litter) returns to console herself next to her prey. The Law of Nature is cruel, impressive, emotionally strong...but just.

Impactful image. Scenes that are always very harsh. Difficult to see and even more difficult to document, because they involve emotionally. Nature is not the idyll we would like it to be... :-(

Great shot, great document. If this photo doesn't deserve the EP, then what is it?

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, we and other animals took very different genetic paths, so much so that we no longer understand each other and no longer understand each other's behaviors. In fact, to tell the whole truth, we have declared war on the other anilams, and in the end we will find ourselves alone, if we get there. The photographed scene, and the story that accompanies it, are truly heartbreaking, at least for me who loves animals, at least I think. I wonder, or rather we should ask ourselves, what mother leopard and hyenas would think if they could see the men engaged today in Ukraine and the Middle East

I understand the difficulty in appreciating shots like that, but that's the reality
