In precedenza denominato Magliano d'Alba, dal 30 gennaio del 1910 fu denominato Magliano Alfieri. Posto a 328 metri sul livello del mare su una sorta di belvedere naturale sulla valle del Tanaro e sulle colline di Langa che lo fronteggiano, presenta nello storico concentrico di Magliano Alto gli edifici più interessanti. Il Castello, grandiosa residenza fatta erigere nel Seicento degli Alfieri, ospita al suo interno due Musei aperti al pubblico. Situato in una posizione suggestiva, fu luogo di soggiorno per il giovane Vittorio Alfieri, destinato a diventare uno dei maggiori poeti tragici italiani. E' circondato da ampie vedute panoramiche e un curato giardino, ed è tappa della Strada Romantica delle Langhe e del Roero.
