Argynnis aglaja (Linné, 1758)_ Famiglia Nymphalidae Sottofamiglia Heliconiidae_ Apertura alare: Da 4,8 a 6,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni con esclusione della Sardegna. - Habitat: Praterie fiorite sia secche che umide, da 300 m. a 2200 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà giugno a metà agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie specie di viole. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina simile al maschio, ma spesso di dimensioni maggiori. L'apice delle ali anteriori è più arrotondato e la colorazione fulva è leggermente più chiara, ma a volte velata di nero. - Specie simili: La caratteristica colorazione verde tra le macchie argentee del rovescio delle ali posteriori e la mancanza delle macchie ocellari premarginali la distinguono facilmente da Fabriciana niobe e Fabriciana adippe.
