The Great War sent on November 12, 2023 (10:08) by Alberto Gaddi. 25 comments, 512 views. [retina]

Well you did to insert this "stumbling" photo.
We always remember too little of the horrors of war. This is one, though not the main one, of their repetition...
Greetings
GG

Thank you for this photo-document that you wanted to post.
My beloved grandfather was a participant in the "Great War" for its entire duration and throughout his life he told me about the terrible experience with great delicacy, without dwelling on the description of horrible facts. I learned from other people why he had a couple of decorations (of which he never boasted) while the lacerations of the wounds he had suffered were still visible after sixty years. He continued to define the direct participants, in the trenches, "us poor boys" without making any distinction on the color of the uniform.
Best regards.
Paul

Thank you Paolo, I never met my paternal grandfather Sante Gaddi, born in 1888, as he died falling from a scaffolding in 1933 when my father was only 11 years old. I
also remember seeing a medal from the Italo-Turkish war of 1911/1912 with a red and blue ribbon at home, but unfortunately I don't know what happened to it.
Best regards and thank you again for your appreciation.

Alberto, looking at the photo carefully I saw
the names Mario Gaddi and Sante Gaddi, so I guess your relatives.
If so, your family has also contributed a lot and with their blood to our Italy.

Thank you 1000 Daniele :-) :-) :-) Among the veterans there is Gaddi
Sante, my paternal grandfather (1888 - 1933) and among the fallen Capt. Gaddi Mario of whom I have no news of relatives, even if the surname Gaddi is not very common at least in Emilia.
Thank you again for your attention, a warm greeting and a nice weekend ;-)

Beautiful work very well done.
My grandfather Carlo was awarded the honour of Knight of the Order of Vittorio Veneto,
he fought along the line of the Piave and right in Vittorio Veneto.
Thank you Alberto for the publication, a warm greeting and happy Sunday.
Sergio ;-) :-P

Thank you Sergio :-) :-) :-) :-)
Unfortunately, I have no news about the life of my paternal grandfather because he died in 1933 in an accident at work when my father was 11 years old, so no account has ever reached me.
The original 30x38 print has been scanned, I just added the "patriotic" background.

An excellent shot and a great warning for everyone so that those horrors do not happen again.
Congratulations Alberto.

Thank you 1000 Eraldo, unfortunately competition and war, which is the extreme face, are innate in the human nature :-(
Best regards,

the deaths of millions are decided by politicians behind their desks... Every war creates dead people and it doesn't matter which side. People behind desks should fight each other if they like it... Beautifully presented document, congratulations
