Il Lupo appenninico (Canis lupus italicus) Natura mia , che regali che mi hai fatto in questi giorni ! Vorrei essere abbastanza bravo a scrivere per trovare le giuste parole per ringraziarti e per descrivere la bellezza di questo incontro . La verità è che probabilmente non esistono le parole giuste per trasmettere le emozioni che ho provato , mentre ti vedevo correre dritto verso di me fino quasi a poterti toccare . La verità è che non si può descrivere il senso di meraviglia che ho provato nel vedere quei tuoi grandi occhi gialli fare capolino tra l'erba alta e con la loro forza “bucare” l'obiettivo e la macchina fotografica, fino ad arrivarmi dritto al cuore , che , per un attimo , si è quasi fermato . Nemmeno nei miei sogni più reconditi avrei mai potuto immaginare di riprendere il lupo appenninico così . E non parlo della foto in sé , ma di quello che c'è dietro a questa foto e che non è visibile . Parlo del modo con cui è arrivato questo incontro. Questa immagine rappresenta solo il culmine di un lungo viaggio, e di una giornata che era partita benissimo ma che si è conclusa con il botto e con 108 Gigabyte di immagini e video di lupi , immagini che probabilmente, in larga parte (come spesso accade) terrò solo per me e che forse non pubblicherò mai , non interamente almeno . Chi mi conosce , sa che ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare il lupo in numerose occasioni in questi anni e che mai nessun incontro, è stato uguale all'altro . Chi mi conosce , sa anche che ho sposato un'idea della fotografia naturalistica molto “pura” , che si basa sul rispetto dell'animale , sul riprendere la natura , senza interferire con essa e cercando di essere una specie di “fantasma” , che osserva , riprende tutto , ma che quando va via , lascia il mondo esattamente come lo ha trovato . Uno spettatore “passivo “ diciamo così . La verità è che è molto difficile , se non impossibile essere completamente invisibili in natura , ma quello che si può fare , è adottare più accorgimenti possibili per fare il meglio che possiamo e per non disturbare . Ecco , in questo senso , devo dire che a differenza di molti altri fotografi, io ho sempre sognato e desiderato di immortalare il lupo così , ma non ho mai “forzato” questo momento. Non ho mai cercato di attirare l'animale a me , al contrario, ho sempre pazientemente atteso , per lunghi anni , che fosse piuttosto l'animale a venire verso il fotografo di sua spontanea volontà, ed è quello che è successo in questo caso , che poi rende questa immagine così speciale per me . Questo , e il fatto che è stata realizzata al di fuori di parchi nazionali, dove fare incontri del genere è molto più complicato trattandosi di zone dove il lupo è perseguitato, ucciso dai bracconieri e trattato alla stregua di una specie di “mostro demoniaco” in grado di uccidere e mangiare qualunque cosa . Ecco , due parole vorrei spenderle anche su questo , lo status di protezione del lupo , in seguito ai vari provvedimenti adottati dal governo , e in seguito alle mosse che sta preparando la commissione europea, è sempre più a rischio. In cuor mio , so già che purtroppo, presto arriverà il giorno dove sarà legalizzata la caccia al lupo anche in Italia, e in quel giorno , io probabilmente piangerò. E dovremmo piangere tutti in realtà, perché ci perderemo tutti . Il lupo è stato quasi sterminato in Italia negli anni passati e rischiamo di fare lo stesso errore di nuovo.Il lupo non è un animale da temere , o demonizzare, è un animale da conoscere e rispettare , per riuscire a conviverci , in quegli spazi che sono tanto suoi , quanto nostri . Tutti gli esseri viventi hanno lo stesso diritto di stare su questa terra , e un lupo , non potrà mai essere colpevole di comportarsi da lupo . Uccide altri animali per vivere ? Si , è vero , ma a differenza nostra , lo fa per sopravvivere, mentre noi lo facciamo per sfizio e per sport . Chi dei due è più “mostruoso” allora ? Mi ricordo ancora quando ho iniziato a muovere i miei primi passi sulle tracce di questo splendido animale . All'epoca erano davvero degli spettri invisibili , e mi emozionavo anche solo quando trovavo dei segni del loro passaggio . Ero con alcuni amici appassionati, iniziammo a piazzare videocamere , a studiare i territori, a informarci e cercare di capirci di più su questo “fantasma” dei boschi . Sono passati tanti anni da quei momenti ormai , e ora , che sono finalmente qui a poter dire di aver realizzato il sogno di fotografare il lupo come volevo , mi guardo alle spalle , e vedo quanta strada ho fatto anche io , come uomo , come persona , ricalcando i passi dei lupi , ritrovando il contatto con la natura e rendendomi conto , probabilmente come mai avevo fatto fino a questo momento, di quanto l'uomo , gli animali, le piante , gli esseri viventi in generale , siano strettamente connessi , come gli anelli di una stessa catena , in cui se si rompe anche uno solo di essi , la catena si spezza , per sempre . Non voglio vivere in un mondo senza i lupi . Un mondo senza questi predatori , è un mondo più povero , meno bello , meno autentico e vero . Voglio lasciarvi con questa frase che mi fece leggere un amico mio quando muovevamo i nostri primi passi sulle tracce del lupo :” Il mondo ha bisogno di un luogo dove i lupi compaiono al margine del bosco, non appena cala la sera, perché un ambiente capace di produrre un Lupo è un ambiente sano, forte, perfetto” (George Weeden, 1958). E non potrei essere più d'accordo… Ringrazio anche l'amico @Francesco Renzoni , compagno di tante avventure e che ha condiviso questi fantastici momenti ed incontri insieme a me , motivandomi a stare sempre sul pezzo e ad alzarmi dal letto la mattina magari anche quando non ne avevo tanta voglia e sposando le mie stesse idee e aiutandomi a portare avanti una fotografia naturalistica davvero rispettosa degli animali. Scelta che spesso ha implicato tante difficoltà e tante rinunce , ma che alla fine , ha pagato ugualmente, anche se ci è voluto semplicemente più tempo , ma saper di aver fatto le cose per bene , rende tutto questo, oggi, ancora più bello .
