Ieri pomeriggio stavo uscendo da casa per iniziare la mia solita esplorazione ma appena ho aperto la porta, ho incontrato questo bellissimo biacco. Era sdraiato li vicino a prendere il sole e sono rimasto stupito ad osservarlo. Per qualche secondo ci siamo guardati negli occhi a distanza di circa 20cm, poi lui ha iniziato velocemente a scappare, mentre io lo seguivo a distanza. Si e nascosto sotto un cespuglio di gerani, sono riuscito ad avvicinarmi e ho scattato come meglio potevo. La testa purtroppo non si vede perché era a destra nascosta tra i rami, quando ho allungato la mano per spostarli è scappato via velocissimo e non l'ho più visto. Non ho esplorato l'erba nei dintorni per non spaventarlo e farlo allontanare ancora di più, spero di fotografarlo meglio al prossimo incontro. Ho incontrato tante volte il biacco in giardino a distanza molto ravvicinata ma non avevo mai fatto in tempo a fotografarlo, ama nascondersi vicino alla porta tra i vasi con i fiori. Una volta l'ho visto inseguire e catturare una lucertola, lo scorso anno ho potuto osservare anche l'accoppiamento. Anche se non è visibile la testa, questa foto mi piace molto perché documenta il comportamento e le capacita di mimetismo di questa specie. Si nutre di lucertole, topi, anfibi e uova di uccelli; può mangiare anche altre specie di serpenti. Striscia molto velocemente e l'ho osservato anche mentre si arrampicava sugli alberi. Il biacco è di colore giallo o verde scuro con macchie nere sul dorso, questa è la sottospecie Carbonarius, che è tutta nera con delle piccole macchie gialle vicino agli occhi e sotto la testa.
