Ecco un'altra foto scattata qualche giorno fa durante le mie quotidiane esplorazioni notturne. Il Centrotus cornutus è un insetto appartenente alla famiglia Membracidae, vive nei boschi e negli ambienti umidi. Possono essere incontrati in primavera e in estate, si muovono molto poco ma se disturbati possono saltare come gli ortotteri. Comunicano tra loro, soprattutto durante il periodo degli accoppiamenti, attraverso delle vibrazioni emesse da un particolare organo sonoro. Dopo l'accoppiamento le femmine bucano, grazie al loro ovopositore, i rami delle piante erbacee e vi depongono molte uova. Le larve si nutrono della linfa, che aspirano grazie ad una particola spirotromba; le piante nutrici appartengono alla famiglia delle Asteraceae, di solito il genere Cirsium e Carduus. Gli insetti adulti sono polifagi, si nutrono di tante specie di piante e possono raggiungere i 10 millimetri di lunghezza, le femmine sono di solito più grandi dei maschi. Il corpo è di colore marrone, possiedono due occhi sporgenti e 3 paia di zampe, ognuna delle quali termina con due piccoli uncini che gli consentono di aggrapparsi bene ai rami delle piante. Una delle particolarità di questa specie è il pronoto, che si trova sul dorso, è ricoperto di piccoli peli e ha una forma ondulata con due piccole protuberanze laterali, da cui deriva il nome cornutus. La particolare forma del pronoto li aiuta a mimetizzarsi con il loro habitat, questo insetto quando è fermo su un ramo sembra parte della corteccia. Quella notte stavo esplorando il sottobosco, nei giorni precedenti aveva piovuto e c'era molta umidità. Su un ramo di pruno nascosto tra le foglie, ho visto questo piccolo insetto, era mimetizzato benissimo e riconoscibile solo ad un occhio esperto. Questa foto documenta il suo habitat e le sue particolarità.
