Corno alle Scale - Particolare - Appennino Bolognese << … il nostro monte più alto è quello che più spesso ha cambiato nome nel corso del tempo, conservando però nelle varie denominazioni quelle che sono le sue caratteristiche peculiari, cioè la grande stratificazione a gradini ben visibile sul lato est e il fatto di non essere sul crinale ma di distaccarsene come un'ala a parte. Infatti si è chiamato Alpes Scalarum, Montem de Scale, Corno delle Scale … Ma il nome che più caro è senza dubbio Capotauro, come era conosciuto nel X secolo, quando viene citato in una ricognizione dei confini del Belvedere compiuta da legati dell'imperatore Ottone nel 969. Questo nome è estremamente indicativo della morfologia del monte, in quanto riunisce in sé il termine latino "caput", testa, parte principale, e quello prelatino "taur", che indica un giogo di monte.
