Quella notte ero come al solito in esplorazione notturna nel sottobosco, era metà settembre e c'era molta umidità, nei giorni precedenti erano arrivati i primi temporali autunnali. Avevo con me come sempre due zaini e alcuni fauna box per raccogliere e allevare bruchi o altri animali; non si può mai sapere in natura che specie si incontrano e in che momento, quindi per fotografare serve tanta attrezzatura, ma a volte per non disturbarli, oppure se sono in spazi stretti, bastano poche cose. Mi piace molto all'alba e al tramonto fotografare con i treppiedi in luoghi da me scelti, ma di notte preferisco avventurarmi in posti più particolari e nascosti. Il sottobosco molto fitto e i rami bassi mi impedivano di portare con me tutta l'attrezzatura, quindi la lasciai in un punto riparato e proseguii solo con la macchina fotografica e una luce led; senza la preoccupazione di rompere qualcosa potevo muovermi con più tranquillità. Gli alberi sono dei perfetti nascondigli, stavo osservando i rami di un melo quando vidi questa piccola lucertola campestre che dormiva ben nascosta dietro le foglie. Le lucertole amano fermarsi a riposare di notte tra i rami o tra le cavità degli alberi, si mimetizzano benissimo e nell'oscurità può essere molto difficile vederle. Mi avvicinai lentamente tra la chioma dell'albero fino a poterla toccare, lei incuriosita dalla leggera luce della torcia si girò a guardarmi e fu proprio in quel momento che la fotografai. Lentamente mi allontanai e continuai l'esplorazione, non volevo disturbarla, si era scelta un bel posto per dormire; se l'avessi spaventata sarebbe scappata e avrebbe dovuto cercarsi un nuovo nascondiglio.
