Allodola di taglia media e robusta e coda piuttosto corta; artiglio posteriore corto (5-8 mm), leggermente ricurvo. Ne esistono diverse sottospecie che variano notevolmente, soprattutto nella colorazione del pumaggio che è molto simile a quella dei suoli locali. La ssp. che vive in Marocco (a.d. payni) è grigio-rosato scuro sopra e rosa-marrone sotto. Abita nel deserto o nel semi-deserto, principalmente nelle pianure, e talvolta si trova lungo i bordi delle strade. È una specie sedentaria che si nutre sia di semi che di insetti camminando sul terreno. Stato di conservazione: non minacciata. Barrage El Mansour Eddahbi, Ouarzazate, Novembre 2022.
