The King of the Andes...

Colombia 2022

The King of the Andes sent on February 03, 2023 (9:04) by Alchie. 20 comments, 809 views. [retina]

Many congratulations Alessandro for this wild photo, however: how sad, I did not know that the Condors were in such desperate conditions.

El condor pasa.... Who would have thought that a species so representative of Andean culture would risk extinction? :-or
Great shot Alessandro. :-)

The beauty of this shot, as well as in the subject taken completely wild, as you explained, is also in the shooting point, simply perfect!

Thanks for the intervention and appreciation Leo!
I partly agree with your interesting intervention. I too often consider "invasive" and useless some procedures related to the study and monitoring of birds, as often happens for example with the catches made for ringing. I
can assure you that the biologists who conducted the operations that I told in the thread, years later still regret what happened. Species so endangered must necessarily be studied thoroughly to try to save them.
Often they are the skills and means not adequate for difficult projects aimed at repairing the havoc committed by us humans.

Alchie, referring to Leone's speech, I am witness to these atrocities made in the nests, to name one this year several kites and Egyptian vultures with GPS have all died and certainly not for their will but electrocuted on the poles of high voltage, the only shielded point where electromagnetic waves do not pass! They lose their orientation and are unable to go on the right path... They are taking advantage of this with protection projects that ultimately only protect their pockets! We photographers are seen as possible eyewitnesses who can immortalize them in the fact and in their intent and through photography bring to light the macabre truth. I also witness the departure of Egyptian vultures in nature and those arrive at their destination because after years I see them nesting and increasing in pairs ...... yet they never get electrocuted !!|!| :-D

Thanks also to you for the feedback Mimmox, a very broad topic ..... When I have some time I will open a thread on the topic.
We photographers are certainly not well regarded. To give an example at the Circeo National Park if they take you to take a photo lying down you get a hefty fine and while they make the report you hear in the background the shots of poaching hunters in full breeding season ....
