Lo scorso anno da maggio ad ottobre ho dedicato molte notti all'osservazione dei gechi verrucosi. Passando tanto tempo vicino alle loro tane alcuni esemplari adulti sono ormai abituati alla mia presenza e mi consentono di avvicinarmi fino a toccarli, molti esemplari giovani però hanno paura e quasi sempre scappano appena sentono un rumore in lontananza. Sono molto furbi e come per tutti gli animali, per avvicinarsi e fotografarli bisogna camminare lentamente in silenzio in modo da percepire ogni piccolissimo rumore. É una specie abbastanza rara nel mio terreno, vivono tra le fenditure nel muro di una piccola capanna abbandonata, una zona piuttosto difficile da raggiungere con l'attrezzatura, le loro tane sono ben nascoste nei posti più irraggiungibili. Questo in foto è un angolo sotto il soffitto che non avevo mai fotografato, ha attirato la mia attenzione ad agosto quando ho visto alcuni piccoli gechi e ho sentito il loro particolare verso simile a uno squittio. Per non spaventarli ho deciso di piazzare l'attrezzatura e appostarmi a distanza con un telecomando, questa è stata la cosa più difficile da fare, il punto da inquadrare è molto stretto, il terreno è in discesa e c'è poco spazio anche per muovermi. Ho usato dei tronchi per creare un appoggio per la macchina fotografica con i flash e sono riuscito a infilarli in questo angolino. Durante la prima notte di appostamento c'è stato un temporale, ma le tane sono al coperto e sono riuscito a fotografare questo piccolo geco che prudentemente era uscito in esplorazione, purtroppo aveva perso la coda ma gli stava ricrescendo, è rimasto lì per qualche minuto, poi spaventato dai tuoni è ritornato nella tana. Questo è stato l'unico esemplare fotografato quella notte, quando piove tutti gli animali restano nascosti, ma nei giorni seguenti fino ad ottobre in tante ore di attesa ho assistito a tante altre bellissime scene.
