Il Pozo de las Ánimas (Pozzo delle anime) è una delle bellezze naturali della provincia di Mendoza. Si tratta di un'area ad altissima e meritata vocazione turistica, tra circuito di natura, e montagne. Non a caso Mendoza è sempre tra le principali proposte dei tour operator quando si parla di viaggi in Argentina. Il Pozo de las Ánimas si trova a 58 chilometri dalla città di Malargüe, nella Valle de los Molles. Il sito naturale consiste in una curiosa formazione, due grandi doline erose da antichi fiumi sotterranei dando origine a due specchi d'acqua verde-turchese a seconda delle condizioni di luce. Il diametro delle due depressioni è di 265 e 300 metri, con una altezza che raggiunge i 90 metri, mentre la profondità massima dell'acqua è di 21 metri. Una sottile parete di roccia separa le due depressioni. Sul sito del Pozo de las Ánimas è battuto dal vento in modo permanente producendo un sibilo che, secondo l'antica leggenda del luogo, corrisponde alle voci delle anime in pena. Il popolo originario di quelle terre, i mapuche, chiamavano quel luogo Trolope-Co cioè “acqua delle urla delle anime” o “acqua dei morti”. La leggenda mapuche narra che due popoli che abitavano sui due versanti delle Ande avevano rapporti sempre tesi. Alcuni membri del popolo che viveva sul versante cileno, descritto come aggressivo, un giorno stavano inseguendo abitanti della zona di Los Molles. Era notte e questi ultimi non sentirono più le urla belligeranti dei nemici. Al mattino seguente decisero di ripercorrere il percorso in senso contrario e, con enorme stupore e sollievo, notarono i lamenti dei nemici: sotto i loro piedi si erano improvvisamente aperti questi due enormi pozzi che risucchiarono i nemici. Erano laggiù moribondi, urlavano. Da quel momento i nativi venerarono quelle formazioni geologiche che aveva salvato loro la vita chiamandole “luogo in cui piangono le anime”. Secoli più tardi, la tradizione regionale, sostiene che lì vanno a pregare e piangere le anime in pena che vagano per le montagne. (fonte Gaucho News)
