Kras , come viene chiamato il carso dai nostri vicini conterranei Sloveni , una passeggiata sui sentieri che dirigono verso il monte san Michele , a poca distanza delle trincee che cento anni fa furono il teatro delle battaglie dell'Isonzo durante il primo conflitto mondiale . Osservando la rigogliosa bellezza della natura che ci circonda e ricordando quanto qui avvenne viene spontanea la riflessione su come , quasi senza rendersene conto , la nostra generazione abbia vissuto nel più lungo periodo di quasi pace , ( o se si preferisce di guerra non guerreggiata ) che il nostro paese abbia conosciuto da quando esiste , ... e il riferimento non è solo agli ultimi due secoli .
