Capidoglio in immersion sent on November 06, 2022 (9:48) by Peda. 10 comments, 509 views. [retina]

at 210mm, 1/2000 f/6.7, ISO 400, hand held. Arcipelago delle Azzorre, Portugal. Specie: Physeter macrocephalus

In Liguria?

You can also see them in Liguria but here I was in the Azores, precisely off the island of Pico.

Beautiful shot and exciting caption ... Already shooting when there is rough sea, with the saline that in zero time dirties the front lens, it is not easy ... doing it then being on board a rubber dinghy is even more difficult ... congratulations for the enterprise :-)

Yes Sestri, the salt was everywhere but at some point a wave hit us in full, I trembled for the camera for a moment, also because it was the first day of vacation and being without it for the following days would have devastated me. But everything went well.
During the return we also took a storm and to return to port we literally "surfed" a wave with the dinghy. It may have been the tiredness of the journey, the
stress of flights, the change of time or the adrenaline of seeing sperm whales but once we returned to port we were dead, an absurd tiredness.

A few years ago I did the whale watching tour leaving by boat from the port of Genoa and, despite the calm sea, the 5-6 hours of navigation had already fairly tired me 8-) (moreover with only a few dolphins seen and photographed :-( ).
Beautiful adventure yours ;-)

... nice shot! - I too, like Antonio, at most I took some Stenella off GE - a Sperm whale would have really excited me

I live in Genoa and yet I never went whale-watching, I had booked once but then I had done nothing and from there I never tried again.
I must say that perhaps the boat being higher makes you live less action than a low boat.
Since you seem to me interested practically with the dinghy takes place its own and real hunt, there are people who from the ground with powerful binoculars look for the sprays that make the cetaceans and communicate with those who drive the boat the position, at this point engines to the maximum and you go to the indicated point, then obviously you are at a safe distance so as not to disturb.

Well the catch is more than exceptional, congratulations.
Unfortunately I do not see the tail completely in focus or there is some micro blur
Good evening

Hello Fabio, yes photos with perfect focus I have few, the uncomfortable position of the dinghy, the waves, the other people who moved and finally my experience nothing in these photos did the rest.
Also when he is about to dive the guide, understanding it a few moments before, warned us so we all got agitated and I with the tele I took a bang of pushing, in fact I have the whole sequence but with tail to the right, left, bottom, top, in short, shots so so.
Thanks for the ride.
Greetings, Giorgio
