Il camoscio (Rupicapra rupicapra) Abitante tipico della media e alta montagna, il camoscio vive in ambienti molto vari, accomunati soprattutto dalla ripidezza dei versanti e dalla presenza di roccia. Di dimensioni medie e forma compatta, misura in lunghezza da 100 a 130 cm. In autunno il peso è generalmente compreso fra 30 e 40 kg nei maschi e fra 25 e 30 kg nelle femmine. É caratterizzato da corna ricurve a uncino e permanenti, presenti in entrambi i sessi. Lo zoccolo è dotato di una solea morbida, che favorisce l'aderenza sulla roccia, di un bordo duro e tagliente, che permette di sfruttare i minimi appigli, e di una membrana che, estendendosi a ponte fra i due unghielli, garantisce una maggior superficie d'appoggio sulla neve. La sua dieta, in estate, è composta quasi esclusivamente da erbe fresche ma si arricchisce di foglie, arbusti, licheni e muschi durante la stagione invernale. Il camoscio è la specie di ungulato più diffusa e più abbondante del Parco ed è uniformemente distribuito nelle valli valdostane e piemontesi. Densità elevate si rilevano nei valloni di Campiglia, Noaschetta-Ciamoseretto, Sort, Levionaz e in Valnontey. Anche il camoscio viene seguito e studiato con particolare attenzione dai ricercatori del Parco. Un progetto di studio a lungo termine sulla eco-etologia della specie è in atto in alta Valle dell'Orco.
