Il Castello Carlo V di Monopoli A Monopoli, proprio a ridosso del mare, nasce il suggestivo castello Carlo V, luogo magico...abitato da spiriti inquieti Passeggiare tra i vicoli del centro storico monopolitano significa imbattersi in maestosi portali, chiese antiche e anche in un Castello. Infatti procedendo dal lungomare Santa Maria o da Via Porto è possibile ammirare il Castello Carlo V. Costruito attorno alla metà del XVI secolo, voluto proprio dall'imperatore Carlo V, il castello si affaccia completamente sulla costa, e rappresenta un importante punto di riferimento per i residenti e per chi arriva in visita a Monopoli. La struttura pentagonale, integra una torre cilindrica che pare avere origini ancora più antiche, risalenti all'epoca romana. Costruito per ospitare le alte autorità militari della città, il castello fu adibito a carcere per più di un secolo. Molti furono i prigionieri che transitarono per Monopoli, tra sovversivi e rivoluzionari, e si narra che alcuni di loro subirono diverse torture e soprusi, fino a giungere alla morte. Nel corso degli anni diverse leggende, mischiate a supposti avvistamenti, hanno alimentato l'idea che nel castello Carlo V di Monopoli soggiornino spiriti inquieti. Infatti, uno dei miti più famosi e suggestivi è quello della Dama col Tamburo. Le storie popolari raccontano di una dama in costante attesa del suo consorte, partito per mare e vittima di un terribile naufragio. Si dice che la donna, distrutta dal dolore, continui a suonare un tamburo per segnalare al marito la strada di casa. Numerose sono le testimonianze di chi afferma di aver avvistato la dama, di bianco vestita, sul balcone del castello, oppure intenta a passeggiare affranta per il lungomare. Il suono del suo tamburo, inoltre, pare sia stato udito dai pescatori in transito da quella zona, e anche da alcuni cittadini che passeggiano sul porto nelle ore notturne. Come ogni buon castello che si rispetti, anche il castello Carlo V è dotato di sotterranei. All'interno di questi sorge la chiesa di San Nicola della Pinna e una stanza, priva di finestre, chiamata fossa dei dannati. In questo luogo venivano riposti i prigionieri condannati a morte; molti investigatori del paranormale hanno concentrato qui le loro investigazioni, registrando strane variazioni di campo elettromagnetico, e qualche sinistro brusio. Insomma, per gli amanti dei misteri e del paranormale il castello Carlo V di Monopoli può offrire un'occasione interessante per testare di persona ciò che, allo stato attuale, sono solo voci e timide testimonianze.
