Nell'ottica di rendere il borgo inespugnabile, durante i rimodellamenti della cinta, venne realizzato questo bastione a est. La struttura fungeva da cannoniera, come si vede anche dalle fessure alle pareti (vedi prima immagine doppia nel primo commento). Il baluardo era accessibile dal palazzo in cui risiedeva, appunto, il vicario. È grazie a Taglieschi, storico locale del '600, che abbiamo una collocazione temporale pressoché certa della sua costruzione, che fu conclusa nel 1571.
