Hipparchia statilinus , il temolo degli alberi , è una farfalla della famiglia Nymphalidae . Descrizione : Hipparchia statilinus ha un'apertura alare di 60–68 millimetri (2,4–2,7 pollici). Queste farfalle sono piuttosto variabili, soprattutto nelle sfumature di marrone presenti sulle ali e nell'intensità delle bande bianche. Solitamente il colore di base della parte superiore delle ali è marrone opaco nel maschio, più chiaro o ocra nella femmina, con una frangia ai bordi. Sulle ali anteriori sono presenti due macchie oculari nere cieche o molto discretamente pupillate , mentre le ali posteriori mostrano una macchia oculare molto piccola.
