Quest'antica torre era parte del sistema difensivo contro i corsari ideato dall'architetto fiorentino Camillo Camilliani. Nel XVI secolo infatti le coste del Regno di Sicilia vennero dotate di torri di avvistamento per la difesa contro gli attacchi dal mare. La torre presenta la tipica pianta quadrata camillanea; alla base si ubicano un terrapieno per la cisterna e il deposito delle munizioni. Ai torrari, militari di guardia alle torri, era destinato un vano al primo piano diviso in due ambienti. Infine, questa tipologia di torri presentava una terrazza finalizzata sia alla difesa delle coste, in cui posizionare i pezzi di artiglieria, sia alla comunicazione di allerta tramite segnali (fani) con fumi e fuoco.
