"Un gimnasio de boxeadores" che al momento del mio passaggio era in pausa, immancabilmente c'erano le porte aperte così non ho resistito alla tentazione di riportare a casa un ricordo. Nel commento aggiungo immagini scattate in un altro gimnasio de boxeadores nella mia precedente visita del 2017 si può percepire dai due ambienti la difficoltà nel reperire materiali di ultima generazione per gli allenamenti, i quali si possono trovare da noi anche nelle palestre meno dotate dal punto di vista della qualifica professionale, nonostante tutto qua si sfornano campioni di livello mondiale, con una scuola di grande valore. La boxe è uno sport molto popolare a Cuba: dei 99.000 atleti cubani, almeno 19.000 sono pugili, inclusi 81 di livello olimpico, anche se solo 12 di loro compongono la squadra ufficiale. Prima del 1959 Cuba aveva 6 campioni del mondo professionisti considerati i padri fondatori della boxe ed eroi nazionali dell'isola. Sebbene Cuba abbia fatto tradizionalmente bene nel pugilato professionistico, non vinse nessuna medaglia olimpica fino a dopo il 1959, quando a causa delle considerevoli risorse, indirizzate allo sviluppo degli atleti dopo la rivoluzione cubana, l'alto standard internazionale cubano era evidente in campo olimpico.
