È uno dei più significativi e antichi edifici civili medievali della Toscana. La costruzione risale al 1201, anno di concessione della Charta Libertatis alla comunità suveretana da Ildebrandino VIII Aldobrandeschi, conte palatino, per ospitare le magistrature comunali. L'ingresso del Palazzo Comunale è composto da una ripida ma breve scalinata coperta da un portico sorretto da tre colonne, due delle quali circolari e una, l'ultima nell'angolo dell'edificio, quadrata, si trova davanti alla Piazza dei Giudici, piazza nella quale si riuniva la popolazione suveretana per ascoltare le sentenze e le comunicazioni che i magistrati emettevano, e per questo forse proprio nominata così. Il palazzo comunale è ancora sede del comune di Suvereto, conservando così nei secoli le funzioni principali per il quale è stato fondato, funzioni politiche e rappresentanza.
