Famoso in tutto il mondo per le sue opere raffiguranti personaggi che potremmo definire “formosi”, Fernando Botero è un pittore e scultore colombiano nato a Medellin nel 1932 e innamorato di Pietrasanta. A testimoniare il legame di Botero a Pietrasanta sono anche le numerose donazioni dell'artista alla città. Basta citare gli affreschi che decorano la piccola chiesa della Misericordia di Pietrasanta e “Il Guerriero” di Botero, una statua in bronzo realizzata nel 1992 alta circa 4 metri che troneggia in piazza Matteotti.
Le opere di Botero si trovano anche al Museo dei bozzetti, allestito nel chiostro di Sant'Agostino, che custodisce tre bozzetti dell'artista. Si tratta in particolare dei bozzetti in gesso delle opere “Adamo”, “Eva” e “Donna con un ombrello”, che l'artista realizzò negli anni settanta.
