Il Faro Santa Croce è stato edificato nel 1856 dai Borboni, e il suo nome deriva dal nome della contrada in cui è locato. Nel 1932, sotto il regime fascista, venne effettuato un primo restauro e si costruì una grande cisterna per la raccolta delle acque. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il faro era un importante punto di osservazione, ma in seguito ai bombardamenti venne abbandonato. Dopo la fine della guerra il faro riprese a fare il suo lavoro e nel 1979 con il pensionamento dell'ultimo guardiano, il sistema di illuminazione venne automatizzato. Anche la casa del guardiano venne abbandonata fino al 1995, quando iniziarono i lavori di recupero della struttura.
