Curiosità di anatomia vegetale, su una foglia secca di quercia si vedono bene i numerosi stomi che evidentemente in questa situazione formano una superficie bianca che riflette bene la luce. Gli stomi che si vedono nella foto sono chiaramente cellule morte ma che hanno mantenuto la caratteristica forma di due cellule reniformi accoppiate. Gli stomi si trovano nella parte ventrale della foglia e permettono gli scambi gassosi. Quando la pianta ha poca acqua a disposizione gli stomi si chiudono perché da essi la pianta perde molta acqua quando sono aperti. L'ingrandimento 10x di questa foto permette di fotografare piccoli rettangoli di 3,6 mm x 2,4 mm su un sensore FF che in questo caso ha 8688x5792 pixel. La foto è ritagliata lasciando le strutture più a fuoco.
