Durante l'inverno 1917-1918 i due eserciti operarono per migliorare le rispettive difese: gli Italiani completarono la Galleria del Grappa dedicata a Vittorio Emanuele III, opera importantissima a difesa di tutto il fronte montano dal Brenta al Piave. Lunga mt 5152, con 23 batterie di cannoni, 70 mitragliatrici e 6 proiettori. Nelle sue viscere erano collocati depositi di viveri, munizioni, acqua, ed ospedali di primo intervento. |
