Cartina del sistema fortificato di Col Campeggia.
Il luogo era stazione di arrivo di due teleferiche stese sulla Valle Santa Felicita dove il materiale veniva trasportato da Bassano del Grappa con una ferrovia a scartamento ridotto. Fu costruito anche un acquedotto sempre da Santa Felicita.
Col Campeggia, nelle posizioni defilate dal tiro nemico, fu dotato di ricoveri per le truppe e materiali
venne inoltre munito di un sistema fortificato a guardia e protezione della sottostante valle. Fu sede di Comando Tattico del IX Corpo d'Armata, dagli osservatori a pozzo con vista su Monte Asolone e Colli Alti, collegati da un efficiente sistema di gallerie e camminamenti.
Da qui venivano diretti sia il tiro delle artiglierie, poste sui vicini Col Averto e Malga Andreon
Sia le operazioni delle Brigate Basilicata e Abruzzi operanti in questo settore.
Sul terreno risultano tuttora evidenti i resti degli acquartieramenti ricavati contro roccia negli slarghi della strada militare ed ancor meglio i rifugi incavernati.
Il Campeggia divenne perciò importante magazzino e centro logistico per il fronte del settore occidentale del Grappa, in particolare verso la strategica linea di difesa della dorsale dell'Asolone, anche sede di comando, nonché osservatorio per i tiri d'artiglieria verso l'Asolone.
Era anche ultima linea di massima resistenza su Santa Felicita, perciò furono approntate numerose trincee per quasi 15 chilometri di scavo (solo in parte recuperate).
Lo sfondamento di questo settore, per altro tentato dagli austroungarici con le asprissime battaglie sull'Asolone, avrebbe comportato il facile dilagare senza altre difese verso Bassano del Grappa, principale centro di smistamento logistico italiano. |
