Salendo la strada da kranjska Gora verso il passo Vršič in prossimità di un tornante si trova un monumento denominato "la cappella russa " , un piccolo gioiello architettonico risalente alla prima guerra mondiale . Questa la storia , poco dopo l'inizio delle ostilità con l'Italia, l'esercito austriaco decise di costruire una strada di montagna verso il passo Vršič in modo da poter agevolare la consegna dei rifornimenti ai propri soldati nella zona di Caporetto e lungo il fronte sulla linea dell'Isonzo , ma a causa della carenza di militari del genio , aggiunta alla scarsità manodopera locale , si dovette utilizzare un contingente di prigionieri russi per la realizzazione del tracciato verso il valico. I lavori iniziarono nell'estate del 1915 e proseguirono ininterrottamente fino all'inverno del 1916 quando una enorme valanga rovinò sul cantiere , seppellendo e uccidendo molti prigionieri assieme alle loro guardie , dopo aver dato degna sepoltura alle vittime, i superstiti decisero di costruire una chiesa in quel luogo , così, nel corso del 1917, la Cappella fu edificata con il contributo volontario dei prigionieri russi , un monumento a ricordo di un evento tragico che è stato meta di una visita del presidente russo Putin in una suo recente meeting in Slovenia .
