31 agosto 2021 - Labbo giovane in decollo - Sulla via del ritorno con Andrea stavamo ricordando ciò che ci era da poco capitato. Il pomeriggio prima, speranzosi, ci avviavamo per la sessione serale. Ci vogliono 40 minuti per arrivare in quel luogo. Ma non era tutto lì, quel pomeriggio, secondo il calendario la marea doveva essere bassa, quando arrivammo invece era alta. Impiegammo altri 15 minuti per guadare, sprofondando nel fango, la foce del canale che ci separava da dove ci eravamo prefissati di appostarci. Finalmente arrivati, scorgemmo in lontananza a nord e a ovest banchi di pioggia che minacciosamente sembravano avvicinarsi sempre più. Il sole filtrava a malapena tra le nuvole grigie e ad un certo punto sopraggiunse un forte vento che spazzò via gran parte della speranza che riponevamo per quella sessione fotografica. Il tempo di fare due foto inguardabili ai tridattili prima di ricevere la benedizione dal cielo. Dopo aver improvvisato una fortunosa azione di salvataggio dell'attrezzatura, oltre il danno, anche la beffa: il sole e l'arcobaleno fecero la loro comparsa. Bagnati fradici e infangati, compresa l'attrezzatura mimetica che emanava un odore assai sgradevole, ci avviammo verso il ritorno. Il colpo di grazia arrivò mentre stavamo per riattraversare il canale, quando scorgemmo una figura curiosa in mezzo all'acqua che indossava una muta. Dopo aver tentato di convincerci ad attraversare il canale in una zona assai più pericolosa, riuscimmo finalmente a raggiungere l'altra sponda. Decidemmo quindi di chiedergli informazioni sulle maree, confidando che fosse meglio informato di noi; ma lui, come sordo alle nostre domande, continuò imperterrito a parlare di altro. Alla fine, esasperati, ce ne andammo non prima che ci fu posta l'acutissima domanda da parte sua: ”Ma vi dovete accampare per la notte? Guardate che più in su ci sono i Conti! È proprietà privata!”. Per noi lui da allora fu sempre “Il Vongolaro del Conte”. Per la mattina dopo tutti i servizi meteo prevedevano pioggia, quindi decidemmo di svegliarci un po' più tardi del solito. Quando il giorno dopo suonò la sveglia, e guardammo fuori dalla finestra, non c'era una nuvola all'orizzonte. Arrivati sul posto il sole era già alto e la marea bassa. Da giorni scorgevamo in lontananza un uccello nero, piuttosto grande, senza però dargli troppo peso; ma quella mattina il labbo era lì, a 25 metri di fronte a noi e non potemmo non notarlo. Le foto? Nulla di particolare, ma il soggetto meritava. Decidemmo dunque di appostarci in prossimità della zona dove lo avevamo appena visto, nella speranza di rivederlo e di fotografare qualche limicolo. Solo l'arrivo di pochi corrieri grossi, un fratino e qualche combattente in lontananza ci deliziarono della loro presenza. Nel mentre il labbo volteggiava per niente intimorito attorno al capanno, cercando di cacciare i beccapesci per ben quattro volte, senza però purtroppo riuscirci. All'improvviso lo vedemmo arrivare da sud-ovest, in volo frontale, e atterrare a 11 metri di fronte al capanno. Restò lì per svariati minuti, per poi ripartire. Ecco, era questo per l'appunto ciò che stavamo ricordando mentre camminavamo eccitati sulla via del ritorno. Non eravamo solo stati i primi a vedere quella specie in quel posto, ma molto probabilmente, anche tra i primi a ritrarla in Italia posata a pochi metri di distanza. Una voce poco lontano ci fa alzare gli occhi, Il Vongolaro del Conte ci passa a fianco salutando allegramente come se ci conoscesse da una vita; ma stavolta nulla poteva essere rovinato, salutiamo a nostra volta con vana cortesia mentre un sorriso beffardo si fa largo tra le nostre labbra accompagnato poi, a debita distanza, da una fragorosa ristata.
