La Torre di Abbacurrente è una delle 105 torri costiere censite in tutta la Sardegna, la sua funzione visto la piccola struttura era di avvistamento e segnalazione, questa tipologia di torri veniva definita Torrezillas. La struttura esterna è in ottimo stato dopo le ristrutturazioni effettuate negli anni passati. Purtroppo però causa la continua erosione della costa, il Comune di Porto Torres ha interdetto tutta l'area interessata per le continue frane dalle scogliere circostanti. Anche la Torre che si trova praticamente a pelo dell'acqua, se non vi saranno altri interventi di consolidamento della base, sarà inevitabilmente a rischio crollo.
