Il fiume Gave de Pau, che attraversa Lourdes, la sua sorgente si trova nel circo di Gavarnie, classificato nel 1997 Patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO nel dipartimento degli Alti Pirenei. Il fiume è anche famoso per la pesca del salmone. A meno di 12 chilometri dalla cittadina mariana, sempre lungo il percorso del fiume, si trovano le magnifiche grotte di Bétharram, che consiglio vivavamente di visitare. Non perdetevi la suggestione di salire a bordo di un trenino,e poi in barca sul lago sotterraneo, per proseguire a piedi, dove è possibile andare alla scoperta, (percorrendo cinque piani di gallerie scavate in tempi diversi), di impressionanti formazioni geologiche in cui si alternano stalagmiti, stalattiti, drappeggi e colonne. Un mondo incantato di creazioni dalle forme più sorprendenti. Un grande grazie a chi lascerà un segno del suo gradito passaggio.
