Il Pino laricio è uno degli alberi più diffusi sull'Etna. Lo si trova dagli 800 metri fino ai 2000. Con le sue pinete Linguaglossa riforniva di legname e resine, utilizzati per secoli per usi civili e nella costruzione delle imbarcazioni, la vicina Riposto, un borgo marinaro in provincia di Catania. La resina, estratta già dai greci e poi dagli altri colonizzatori che li seguirono, veniva impiegata per produrre la pece necessaria alla impermeabilizzazione delle fiancate delle navi. In questa foto ,a destra, un tronco di un vecchio albero che ha ormai ceduto spazio ad un nuovo alberello a sinistra, che cresce rigoglioso dove tanti anni fa anche lui aveva messo radici.
