L'Egitto è una terra che mi affascina per quel senso di mistero e di arcano che racchiude. Nonostante sia stato un faro di civiltà, di cultura e di arte ancor prima della Magna Grecia e della nostra Roma Imperiale e Caput Mundi, il popolo egiziano a differenza degli altri popoli, se da una parte ha saputo organizzare un turismo procacciatore di un certo benessere, dall'altra ha la maggior parte della popolazione che vive in estrema povertà, sbarca il lunario nei campi o in polverose botteghe artigianali dove si fabbriacano souvenir, quasi sempre molto soppopagati. In tutti i siti archeoligici dell'alto e basso Egitto, si trovano frotte di ragazzini che ti vendono di tutto e di più, facendo leva sulla tenerezza dell'età e della povertà, riescono a portare a casa il loro gruzzoletto quotidiano. Le famiglie povere vivono in case di fango scavate nella roccia, chi riesce a procurarsi o a costruirsi una chiatta e una piccola feluca, nei periodi di piena del Nilo, quando il fiume rende fertili i terreni e si riempie di pesci, va a pesca. Vestono lunghe tuniche di cotone, e in testa per difendersi dai caldissimi raggi del sole, hanno un turbante: una larga fascia che arrotolano intorno al capo. Gli sconvolgimenti politici che da anni ormai hanno distrutto il turismo, hanno impoverito chi di turismo viveva e impoverito ancor di più chi si era ritagliato gli spazi artigianali in botteghe mercati e strade. La solitudine dell'uomo che vedete in foto è molto eloquente e rappresentativa di questa povertà. Speriamo in tempi migliori.
