Nel corso di una vacanza in Puglia ed in particolare a Gallipoli, vi sarà capitato di osservare, nella città vecchia o nei paraggi del porto, dei pescatori intenti ad eseguire uno strano lavoro di intreccio. Quei suggestivi “cesti” intrecciati sono le nasse, vere e proprie gabbie di giunco che andranno depositate sui fondali per catturare i pesci. Una tradizione, quella dell'intreccio delle nasse, che si tramanda di padre in figlio, assieme a perizia, pazienza e, come in tutte le famiglie di pescatori di tutto il mondo, devozione religiosa. Perché il mare va rispettato, sempre. Esistono diversi tipi di nasse, a seconda del tipo di pesca e del pescato: a “pede”, ormai rare, per la pesca delle piccole triglie; a “tonu” per la pesca dei gronghi, dei polpi e delle murene; “pe secce” per la cattura delle seppie; “de ope” per la pesca delle boghe.
