Salendo una scala stretta, raggiungo il suo laboratorio al primo piano di una graziosa casetta nel centro di Oliena. Dal terrazzino, dolcemente ombreggiato dalle foglie di una rampicante, riesco a scorgere il senso complessivo di quell'intreccio di vicoli che salgono in verticale, dal quale mi sentivo quasi imprigionato. La bellezza della cittadina mi si schiude davanti. Franco è un uomo attento e preciso, capace di interrogarsi sul percorso che l'economia sarda dovrebbe intraprendere, rimanendo fedele alla propria anima. Ad aiutarlo è uno dei suoi figli. Mi colpisce il fatto che il ragazzo sia un grande appassionato di morra, gioco che non sentivo più nominare dalla mia infanzia. Li osservo tagliare quel cuoio, convincerlo ad assecondare le proprie intenzioni, sino a costringerlo alla resa. Sul tavolo giacciono scarpe.
