the station master...

scansioni da negativi

the station master sent on October 15, 2020 (21:12) by Carlo Alfonso. 57 comments, 839 views. [retina]

, 1/10 f/8.0, ISO 100, hand held. Benevento, Italy.

Austere and authoritarian look, did you pay for the ticket before you photographed it?
Bel subject, great colors and detail.
Ciao,
Carlo

Carlo, thank you!!! I knew how hard it was to recover this negative, which I'm not going to tell you! 8-) The caption, for obvious reasons, does not cover all the evidence and calibrations to achieve this result that I still do not find 100% satisfactory although much better than the photographic printing scan I had published in lock-down times and then deleted to make way for some other more decent photo :-D

I imagine the difficulty, but the result is more than excellent!
Magari I could get to results like that too! :-P

Beautiful photo, I see that you have chosen very saturated colors that everyone is there. Excellent. ;-)

Fabio, thank you. 8-) The saturated colors are precisely those of 14x20 printing (even slightly less on ;-) and are typical of that type of film in those light conditions. In addition, the colors of the rubizza face and the eyes of the station master are quite faithful to those of the station master in cap and uniform, that is, in flesh and blood ... it's :-D
I still don't like this scan, the contrast a little too hard and the noise a little excessive for a 100 Asa 8-) film.
Ciao, Carlo

Just for comparison, I show the scanner scan of the 14x20 photo printed at the time by this negative:

A face to.... station master :-P With this zero tolerance :-D I do not discuss the technique adopted, you are very prepared, but for my taste I would have contained the reds. The skin of the face looks too bright. Sorry about the frankness. The portrait, however, is great for expression.
bye gios ;-)
