Fotografia scattata dal Rifugio Locatelli. Qui, al cospetto dalla Cima Tre Scarperi, che tocca quota 3148 m e del massiccio Croda Rossa/Cima Undici, vi sembrerà di essere stati catapultati in poco tempo in un luogo idilliaco, quasi fiabesco. Ma la località non offre solo meraviglie naturali e paesaggistiche: anche gli amanti della Storia troveranno in questi luoghi percorsi affascinanti e suggestivi. Una via ferrata, tra le più famose delle Alpi insieme alla Strada degli Alpini, consente infatti di scoprire le tracce del fronte dolomitico della Grande Guerra, in direzione della vetta della Croda Rossa: si tratta di due vie ferrate tra i sentieri militari risalenti alla Grande Guerra più affascinanti delle Dolomiti. La storia della Grande Guerra sulla Croda Rossa è una storia di opere, di eventi incredibili e di soldati che sfidarono l'altitudine, il freddo, le valanghe e la solitudine. Furono costruite strade, teleferiche, magazzini, postazioni, camminamenti e gallerie. Molte testimonianze lasciate sulla Croda Rossa sono ormai andate distrutte dall'alternarsi delle stagioni, della neve e dall'incuria del tempo. Altre però sono rimaste e testimoniano oggi le prodezze dei soldati, la loro inventiva, le soluzioni tecniche e tecnologiche che trovarono in una guerra certamente unica nella storia dell'uomo.
