Nello specifico, la foto è stata scattata dalla Forcella Pian di Cengia, guadagnata provenendo dall'Alpe dei Piani in un giro ad anello di 7 ore attorno a Tre Cime e Paterno iniziato dal Rifugio Auronzo e proseguito in senso orario verso ovest, toccando la Forcella de l'Col de Mèdo, il Locatelli, i Laghi dei Piani, i Laghi di Cengia e la Forcella Lavaredo.
La Croda dei Toni non è una cima alla quale posso essere affezionato come Civetta o Roda di Vael, ma è certamente una tra le più belle montagne che io conosca. Altra vetta di grande suggestione fotografica che mi riprometto di tornare a ritrarre è la Sforcella, nel Gruppo del Catinaccio.
