La farmacia, risale alla prima metà del XVIII secolo e deve il suo nome alla fontana con il cinghiale, detta del "porcellino", opera in bronzo dello scultore Pietro Tacca (1612) che, collocata in passato di fronte al suo ingresso, è oggi situata sul lato corto della Loggia del Mercato Nuovo. Ancora oggi la farmacia è collocata nella sua sede originaria, al piano terra di un edificio già di proprietà dell'Arte della Seta, poi del Cambio e infine dell'Ospedale degli Innocenti. L'antica origine della farmacia è testimoniata da un importante testo, edito a Firenze nel 1752, nel quale il medico fiorentino Niccolò Branchi della Torre elencava una serie di esperimenti chimici effettuati nel laboratorio di questa Spezieria. Questo fatto, oltre a testimoniare la funzione della farmacia come centro di ricerche d'avanguardia, è il segno della notorietà del Branchi il quale nel 1757 ottenne dal Granduca Francesco Stefano di Lorena l'incarico di aprire a Pisa la prima scuola di chimica. Nel secolo XIX la farmacia divenne anche centro di ritrovo di intellettuali illustri, come i letterati Aleardi, Prati, De Amicis e Fucini, quest'ultimo ricordato da una lapide collocata all'interno del locale. Nel 1970 fu rilevata dal dottor Paolo Urbinati che decise di ridare vita alle antiche conoscenze botaniche combinandole con i nuovi studi in ambito di ricerca cosmetica. In collaborazione con Cosmesi Italia sono nate “Le ricette dell'antica farmacia del Cinghiale”: una linea di cosmetici i cui principi attivi naturali estratti dalle piante si uniscono a metodologie avanzate per la creazione di “prodotti genuini”.
