I manachini sono fra gli uccelli tropicali più interessanti per i loro spettacolari rituali di corteggiamento. I maschi del genere Manacus, come questo Manacus candei, hanno penne alari modificate per emettere particolari suoni. Le cinque remiganti primarie esterne sono molto strette mentre le primarie interne sono spesse ed ispessite arcuate. Gli uccelli possono così emettere un forte schiocco, con un suono simile a quello di un ramoscello che si spezza, e vari altri suoni rumori fruscianti e soffianti. I manachini sono difficili da fotografare sia perché poco comuni sia soprattutto perché vivono sempre nel folto della foresta e l'avvistamento è sempre frutto di una lunga ricerca, in condizioni di luce precarie.
