L'ha fatto, l'Islanda mi ha fatto il regalo più grande, questa sarebbe stata l'unica notte con una percentuale di visibilità probabile del 20%, dovevamo provarci! 40km d'auto su strade totalmente innevate per arrivare alle cascate degli dei, -19 gradi e solito vento che ti ferma il cuore. È impossibile trovare le parole, non avevo mai assistito a nulla del genere. Dopo 2 ore fermi in auto, convinti che comunque sarebbe arrivata, ecco che dal nulla la prima scia luminosa ha squarciato il cielo dando inizio ad una danza di colori durata quasi 3 ore. Immobili ed in silenzio. Un'emozione unica, aspettavo questo momento da anni, l'ho sognata tantissimo! Ho provato a tornare in auto più volte appena il suo splendore tendeva a svanire ed appena mi giravo esplodeva nuovamente nel cielo, pietrificato davanti allo spettacolo migliore che io abbia mai visto. Il mio viaggio è iniziato lontanissimo, nel 2001 ero poco più che bambino ed il mio grande maestro di alpinismo una sera mi raccontò delle sue spedizioni in giro per il mondo. Mi rimase impresso qual suo "l'aurora rimane lo spettacolo migliore al mondo". 2020 siamo partiti INSIEME io, lui ad altri 2 alpinisti per una spedizione nella penisola di Trollaskagi, nord dell'Islanda, 12 giorni di sci alpinismo puro nei bellissimi fiordi islandesi. Ho passato 9 notti a controllare i modelli meteo su ogni sito della zona. Sempre e solo nuvole ma la speranza è l'ultima a morire!!! la decima notte uno spiragio di qualche ora, proprio nel mezzo della notte, ci ha fatto questo regalo che porterò con me tutta la vita!
