L'Obelisco agonale è uno dei nove obelischi egizi di Roma. Fa parte della Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi in piazza Navona. Ha una altezza di 16,38 m, e con la fontana, il basamento e la colomba sulla cima supera i 30 m. Fu realizzato all'epoca dell'imperatore Domiziano imitando i modelli egiziani e copiando i geroglifici e inizialmente collocato nella sua villa presso Albano Laziale; nel 311 Massenzio lo fece spostare nel circo della villa omonima sulla via Appia antica. Nel 1651 papa Innocenzo X lo fece recuperare, spezzato in quattro pezzi, e l'architetto Gian Lorenzo Bernini lo innalzò al centro di piazza Navona nella sua Fontana. Il banchiere Giovanni Torlonia, che aveva in possesso l'area della villa di Massenzio, ne ritrovò dei frammenti che decise di donare a Luigi I di Baviera. (fonte Wikipedia)
