Il 2019 è stato un anno particolarmente avaro di pioggia in Botswana, e le piogge sono state scarse anche sulle montagne dell'Angola, origine del grande flusso di acqua che alimento il delta dell'Okavango; gli animali sono costretti a lunghe marce per raggiungere i sempre più scarsi punti d'acqua; quest'anno molti elefanti si sono avvicinati ai villaggi provocando danni e mietendo vittime tra la popolazione, quando si siamo andati via si cominciava a parlare di abbattimento dei gruppi troppo vicini all'abitato.
