Il Tempietto è costituito da una piccola aula quadrilatera coperta da volta a crociera e separata per mezzo di un'iconostasi da una parte absidale divisa in tre sezioni da colonne con capitelli corinzi reggenti tre voltine a botte, sensibilmente più basse della volta dell'aula. Oltre che per la sua struttura architettonica, il Tempietto è opera di eccezionale interesse per il magnifico apparato decorativo, soprattutto per gli stucchi (gesso, calce e polvere di marmo); sulla parete di fondo si ammirano, infatti, un finissimo arco a tralci di vite e, sopra di questo, disposte ai due lati di un piccolo arco, sei figure muliebri in altorilievo addossate al muro. Le decorazioni in stucco e gli affreschi furono eseguiti poco dopo la metà dell'VIII secolo, verso il 760. Nei primi anni del XVIII secolo cessò la funzione di cappella del Tempietto e il luogo fu adibito a sala capitolare del convento; alla fine dell'Ottocento le monache donarono il prezioso monumento alla comunità di Cividale (1893) e in tale occasione si costruì il passaggio pensile, sul greto del Natisone, che tuttora porta alla piazzetta di S. Biagio, in modo da non passare per il convento. Nel corso dei secoli il Tempietto fu spesso rimaneggiato, ne fanno fede soprattutto gli affreschi che ne decorano le pareti; affreschi che vanno dall'XI alla fine del XIV secolo. Gli affreschi originali (Cristo Logos tra gli arcangeli Michele e Gabriele, la Vergine con il Bambino, vescovi e Santi) sono databili intorno al 760 circa.
