Bosa (Oristano) fa parte dell'Unione dei comuni della Planargia e del Montiferru Occidentale dei quali è il principale centro abitato, il più vasto territorio del Logudoro. Durante il periodo Aragonese ottenne il rango di "città regia". E' attraversata dl fiume Temo, unico fiume navigabile della Sardegna (circa 6 Km). Nella costa tra Bosa ed Alghero è presente l'unica colonia sarda di grifoni , specie protetta.
