Il santuario di Nostra Signora di Lourdes è un complesso religioso situato nell' omonima cittadina , nel sud ovest della Francia , all' interno del quale viene venerata la Vergine Maria , che sarebbe apparsa a Bernadette Soubirous per diciotto volte nel 1858 . Massabielle , il luogo delle apparizioni , è una piccola grotta che rappresenta il luogo centrale del santuario . All'interno della grotta si trova una sorgente le cui acque sono utilizzate per il bagno nelle piscine , in una sorta di rinnovamento del battesimo . Bernadette , una pastorella analfabeta allora quattordicenne , riferì l' apparizione di " una piccola signora giovane " la cui identità rimase sconosciuta fino alla penultima visione quando la fanciulla le domandò ripetutamente , su insistente richiesta del parroco , di rivelare il suo nome ; l' apparizione le rispose , in dialetto occitano , “ Que soy era Immaculada Councepciou “.
