Il conte Giulio Masetti da Bagnano nacque a Vinci nel 1884 e con il fratello Carlo furono valorosi piloti automobilistici. Iniziò a gareggiare privatamente nel 1920 su una vecchia Fiat S57/14B con cui l'anno successivo vinse la Targa Florio sbaragliando gli squadroni dell'Alfa Romeo e della Mercedes... vetture che poi guidò negli anni successivi. Nella sua breve carriera vinse un po' ovunque e dove non arrivava primo era sempre ugualmente ben piazzato. Nel 1926 disputò la Targa Florio... gara di cui era molto appassionato... alla guida di una vettura francese Delage che portava il n. 13. Purtroppo con questa vettura uscì di strada capottando nei pressi di Scafani Bagni (Pa) e visto che all'epoca non vi erano gli attuali accorgimenti per la protezione dei piloti rimase schiacciato sotto la sua stessa vettura.
